Biggest problem is changing the way you think/interact with the computer. After using it on a few documents it got even better learning from previous corrections. Really like the software - easy to setup/use, just have to account for different user interface which takes awhile to get used to. Bought this and wireless keyboard after shoulder surgery (problems typing :-). Did the minimal setup and training and it worked pretty good the first time.
To my surprise, I'm getting about 95% accuracy with Dragon 10. I had previously gotten terribly inaccurate results with speech recognition products such as Dragon 6 and ViaVoice 9, so my expectations were very low.
Each time I use it it gets more and more effective at recognizing my speech cadence and pronunciation. In short I would recommend this product without hesitation. I bought the Dragon software at the recommendation of a friend; however I did so with a high level of skepticism. It has saved me countless hours of writing because it's simply so much quicker to speak your thoughts. And by the way, I dictated this using Dragon. After all, the last bit of voice recognition software I used had left a great deal to be desired. However from the first time I used the Dragon program I found it to be extremely intuitive and very accurate.
First impressions are it is much harder to use than I thought and will take a few hours to figure out how to use it assuming it will work on my computer. I will have to spend more time trying to figure it out. I also said some command words but that did not work either.
After the application was loaded there was a large on-line library that had a lot of tutorials and instructions. I tried going into an application to see if I could get the product to work. This product took awhile to setup on my Windows XP system but seemed to setup properly.
I tried speaking sentences but it did not type any words. I will update my review after I spend more time on it. I have not invested any real time trying to figure out the best practices on using the product.
Most applications are intuitive but this one does not seem to be.
Often dropping or changing even a single word can change the entire meaning of a sentence, so I've found it necessary to carefully review every word and sentence to ensure accuracy. Some of the errors are ridiculous, impossible to decipher; tenses are routinely changed; and occasionally the program seems to suffer brain-lock and completely ignore words or phrases. I still spend more time correcting errors than dictating.
I give it 2 stars only because it is able to do any speech recognition at all. I follow all the instructions on dictation and microphone placement. A very frustrating and infuriating piece of software.
Nothing seems to help. If I were even a marginally competent typist I probably would not use this software. They claim 90% accuracy and they may achieve this with very predictable business letters and similar projects, but for anything more complex, journal entries for example - no way.
I train and train and train the software.
